A Bit About Me

David Malachi Miller, a Glennallen, Alaska native and graduate of Glennallen High School, has been working since the age of twelve. His early experiences include serving as a groundskeeper for the Copper Valley Community Library, where he managed tasks such as weed whacking, garbage collection, and flower care. He also worked for Glenn Storage, contributing to concrete pouring and beam setup for storage unit foundations, as well as mowing lawns on properties they owned. David later worked as a groundskeeper for the Caribou Hotel, where he was responsible for lawn care, shop organization, litter cleanup, and flower maintenance. He gained additional experience through the CRNA’s Y.E.T.I. program, which introduced him to AITRC. Inspired by Sterling Spilinek’s care for an orphaned moose, David became interested in AITRC's mission and work.

The following summer, David joined WRST NPS as part of the Youth Conservation Corps (Y.C.C.). There, he learned about the establishment of the National Park Service, walked trails maintained by WRST NPS, and worked with the Backcountry Maintenance team under the supervision of Jesse Heinaugh and crew leader Cameron Bovee. He found their work impressive enough to continue with the team for subsequent summers.

In January, David was hired by AITRC as the Tribal Stewardship Coordinator, where he continues to apply his skills and experiences in service of the community and its natural resources.
