Deputy Director
Join our team as Deputy Director! This leadership role supports AITRC’s mission by overseeing key departments—including Fisheries, Wildlife, Anthropology, Outreach, GIS, Geology, Ecology, and Administration—to ensure successful, interdisciplinary projects. We’re looking for a strong leader with expertise in natural resource management, grounded in Ahtna traditions and values.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Tribal Governance, or a related field.

Minimum 3 years of management.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures, tribal governance, resource management policies and regulatory processes.

Experience integrating Traditional Knowledge into natural resource management.

Proficiency in project management, grant writing, and interdisciplinary collaboration.​
Geologic Field Technician
Join our team as a Geologic Field Technician to assist with geological and ecological investigations of historic mining areas in the Ahtna territory. This seasonal position, running from mid-June to early September, involves extensive backcountry fieldwork in remote and rugged areas of the Copper River region. Key duties include collecting and carrying rock, plant, and water samples, documenting observations, setting up and maintaining remote camps, and ensuring team safety in challenging outdoor conditions. The role requires physical endurance, adaptability, and a strong commitment to supporting the success of field studies.
Minimum Qualifications:​

Must be 18 and have a valid drivers license

No formal education required; a broad range of outdoor experience will be considered (e.g., backpacking, hunting, fishing, wildland firefighting, mountaineering).

Physical fitness to lift and carry 50 lbs over long distances and rugged terrain.

Adaptability, attention to detail, and a commitment to safe work practices.

Willingness to travel via foot, ATV, boat, helicopter, and/or small plane.

High tolerance for variable weather, insects, and remote working conditions.
Youth Representative
Ahtna Intertribal Resource Commission is seeking a youth representative to participate in Board of Directors, Fish & Wildlife Committee, and State & Federal regulatory meetings. This seat is being created to encourage interest in AITRC and our advocacy for our Customary & Traditional ways of life. The person selected will adhere to the Ahtna Values, be fully engaged in asking questions and want to learn more about challenges affecting our region.

Wildlife Fence Construction
Ahtna Intertribal Resource Commission is embarking on an important habitat improvement project to construct a wildlife fence in the Glennallen area. This initiative aims to propagate willows for browse enhancements within the Ahtna Territory. The project will involve the planning, designing, and constructing of a wildlife barrier while ensuring the safety and mobility of wildlife species.​

Field
Geologist
Join our team ad a Field Geologist to assist in a geological and ecological investigation of historic mining and prospecting sites in Ahtna Territory. This project aims to assess potential environmental hazards and document local geology. This is a hands-on, field-based position requiring extensive mapping, sampling, and remote travel.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Geology with significant field experience. Advanced degrees preferred but not required.

Strong observational skills and meticulous note-taking ability.

Intellectual curiosity and problem-solving mindset.

High tolerance for inclement weather and persistent insects.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Custodian
Ahtna Intertribal Resource Commission is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team on a part-time basis (6–10 hours per week). The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for staff and visitors by following a regular cleaning schedule and performing general upkeep of the office. This position reports to the Office Manager and requires flexibility, strong communication, and a commitment to promoting cleanliness and safety in all shared spaces.
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Basic math skills

Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods

Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work at heights

Experience using cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, floor buffers) and cleaning solutions
